The Physician Health Monitoring Program plays an important role in supporting physician health so that they are able to care for their patients. My interest in physician health started in the 1990s when working with the British Medical Association to prepare a report on the morbidity & mortality of the medical profession. For many years after, I acted as the occupational physician for a number of hospitals advising health care workers, including physicians and their managers, on issues surrounding fitness to work. I moved to Alberta in 2002 to work as the residency program director in occupational medicine at the University of Alberta. I also became an advisory committee member for the Physician and Family Support Program. In December 2016, I joined the College as the Assistant Registrar for the Physician Health Monitoring Program.
All health related questions are managed confidentially through the Physician Health Monitoring Program and health information is kept independent from other departments at the College.
