The College hosted meetings in Fort McMurray on Monday, February 27, 2017 and in Lac La Biche and St. Paul on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 to hear firsthand about the medical care delivery challenges facing these communities.
In Fort McMurray, we met with physicians, healthcare organizations and community leaders, hoping to make connections that will support the rebuild of this community. There was considerable concern over a shortage of specialists. We also heard some questions about the CPSA complaints process.
Access to specialists was a common theme for all three Regional Tour stops. However, in Lac La Biche and St. Paul, we also answered questions about physician recruitment to rural communities and heard feedback on our Prescribing Snapshot letters.
