Committees at the College
A standing committee of Council authorized under the Health Professions Act to provide for the review, investigation and assessment of the competence of members and to make recommendations to Council on continuing competence requirements. This committee oversees general assessment, requirements for continuing professional development and the monitoring and assessment of the competence of regulated members.
Provides advice to the profession on the responsible use of Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) in medical practice. See EMRs and Physicians.
Deals with finance issues related to governance of the College such as the annual budget, investment portfolio and pension statements.
Advises College Council regarding infection prevention and control issues in physician’s offices.
A subcommittee of the Competence Committee. Provides advice and direction to the Physician Wellness department as it pertains to the mangement of physicians whose health issues impact practice. Reports to College Council through the Competence Committee.
A subcommittee of the Competence Committee. Provides advice and direction to the Physician Prescribing Practices program and reports through the Competence Committee to College Council on issues relating to physicians’ prescribing practices.
Advises College Council on the appropriate standards for accredited medical facilities, provides physician approvals for diagnostic imaging and oversees the accreditation of facilities.
Responsible for setting Council agenda, and for directing the business of College Council between Council meetings based on provincial legislation and College bylaws. This committee also reviews the performance of the College Registrar.
A standing committee of Council, which ensures compliance with applicable regulations and practices, plans and promotes learning opportunities for Council members to enhance Council effectiveness, and is responsible for developing recommendations for appointments to Committees.
Reviews dismissed complaints at the request of the complainant. The complainant has 30 days after the complaint is dismissed to request a review. The committee, made up of two physicians nominated by College Council and one public member from a government list, reviews the investigation report and the decision to dismiss. The committee may confirm dismissal of the complaint, send the matter to hearing, or direct the Complaints Director to investigate further and prepare a report for consideration by the committee.
Provides technical expertise and advice to the Competence Committee about the provision, development and evaluation of general and competence assessment activities undertaken as part of the College’s Continuing Competence model.
The Legislation and Bylaw Committee is a standing Committee of Council that reviews applicable legislation and the Bylaws of the CPSA. The Committee will advise Council on proposed changes to legislation and the implications of those changes for CPSA. The Committee will also recommend revisions to the Bylaws as necessary.
A number of CPSA’s departments (such as Accreditation, Professional Conduct and Continuing Competence) enlist the support of assessors, reviewers and subject matter experts to assist in their day-to-day responsibilities. Find out if any such opportunities are currently available.
